Week of April 1st

I was assigned Deinococcus gobiensis yesterday. A few facts while researching this bacteria that it is gram positive, non-motile, spherical red pigmented and facultative anaerobic bacterium. It has higher tolerance to gamma radiation and UV light compare to the other types. It has large number of horizonatally aquired genes. What I find interesting is that there is another strand of D.gobiensis called D.gobiensis I-0. The was found from the upper sand layers of cold desert of Xinjiang region in China.
